More Than Double The Fun | Lindy Rothenburger I had been stuck in a rut. I’d always traveled with only one other person – a friend, my daughter, my sister, or some other family member. So when I was invited to join a 3-day adventure with “the girls” I jumped at it. My sister-in-law, Connie, and I joined three other women, all strangers to me, and headed to Whistler for a women’s conference. All of us are close to the same age and we hit it off right from the start, as though we had all been friends since grade school. This was the first time three of us had ever gone away with a small group of women. How had it taken us so long to discover this joy? The alley is L-shaped and comes to a complete dead end. Both sides are crammed with stalls offering Asian snack foods, souvenirs, fabrics, and Chinese wares – a bargain hunter’s delight! I have never been much of a shopper but I discover I love to shop in China. Much to my surprise, I enjoy the bartering. I come away with amazing deals while still giving a fair price to the vendors. It’s great fun. But I digress… [more] Beijing – Beauty Amidst Chaos! | Lindy Rothenburger Oblivious to the throngs climbing all around me, I’m mesmerized – lost in the swell of my own emotions. Standing in the middle of history with goose bumps bristling up and down both arms, I can’t believe I’m actually climbing the Great Wall of China. Sure, I’d done my homework before leaving home. I knew the wall was originally around 4000 miles long and that construction started in 221 BC and took 10 years to complete. It was constructed of whatever materials existed in the surrounding area, sometimes limestone, sometimes granite, and sometimes just dirt cemented with egg whites and sticky rice! [more] Capturing the Magic | Lindy Rothenburger There’s an increasing trend today toward multi-generational travel. Grandparents are taking their grown children and their grandchildren on vacation with them. We also see more family reunions with aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents vacationing together. The challenge is to find that magical place where every member of the family will be happy. After all, creating cherished memories is what these family vacations are all about. [more] |
